Being Yourself

Being yourself is the height of all achievement and what all people ultimately want. To be yourself, without pretence of any kind, without the need for putting up a defensive front, without fear of judgment by others, is the foundation for all true inner discovery and spiritual exploration.

Being yourself begins with acceptance of all that you are, have been and will be. When you cannot be yourself, it is because you are afraid, so the path to acceptance and to being yourself begins with the release of fear. When you have transformed your fear into serenity and are truly able to be yourself, you will be ready to take the further path, from being to becoming, from acceptance of who you are now, to the fulfilment of all that you may become.

To overcome fear, you need to move from the fears shared by the crowd to the fearless freedom of the individual that you are. This takes courage. As you do this, you will start to become yourself and fear will lose its grip. You can then awaken the spiritual forces of change.

Keeping a Journal:

To begin to understand how fear affects you day by day, start keeping a journal. The purpose of the journal is to look at the ebb and flow of your fears. It is not for losing yourself in your fears but rather for standing back and watching what comes and goes. This way you learn to know the cycles of your fears and how they stop you from being yourself.

Through your journal you can discover how you allow fear, in any of its forms, to stop you being yourself. As you see the patterns emerge and the themes of fear in your daily life, you will begin to identify the impulses behind your fears. This will be a huge step towards changing those impulses and releasing your fears.

When you have examined your journal in depth and distilled its essence, then, quietly and with reverence paint coloured cheerful drawings all over it.
